Why do performers need insurance?

Performers might need different types of insurance depending on what they do. But there are a few risks all performers should consider covering.

One is the risk of accidental third-party property damage or injury. If an audience member gets hurt during one of your shows , they could hold you responsible – meaning they could make a claim against you.

Personal injury is another risk. If you’re too injured to perform, insurance that covers your loss of income could be a lifeline.

These are just examples. The right insurance helps cover a range of unique risks.

What is the best insurance for performers?

Public liability cover

Public liability insurance helps protect you against claims made by a third party – like  a tour attendee. It helps cover the costs of injury and property damage (including legal fees).

Professional liability cover

If a third party faces a personal injury or property damage while acting on your professional advice, they could hold you responsible. Professional liability insurance helps cover the costs of advice-related claims.

Personal accident cover

Available as part of our Platinum Package and Platinum Plus Upgrade, personal accident insurance provides weekly and lump sum benefits if you are too injured to teach or perform.

Venue hire cover

Accidents happen. Protect yourself against financial loss in the event that you or your students damage a venue you’ve hired for practice or performing.

Don’t see your occupation listed? Speak to a Marsh broker to discuss your options before you buy online.

Yes. Generally speaking, a venue’s insurance policy will only cover its own risk exposures. It won’t cover damage or injury caused by third parties – such as performers, contractors or subcontractors.

This depends on which cover option you buy.

Only our Platinum Package and Platinum Plus Package offer worldwide coverage (excluding USA and Canada). Our 30-day and 90-Day Gig Cover options offer coverage in Australia and New Zealand only.

Your certificate of currency – also known as a certificate of insurance – expires on the same date as your performers insurance policy. You’ll need to purchase a new policy once your existing cover expires.

If an incident occurs, contact the Marsh entertainment team as soon as you can. We want you to get the best possible outcome, so we will advocate for you throughout the entire claims process.

Claims can be stressful, but – as the world’s largest insurance broker – we strive to make the process straightforward.
