Insurance for natural health practitioners

Marsh supports the vitality of more than 700 allied health modalities by arranging the right cover – at the right price.

Why do you need to consider insurance for natural health practitioners?

Working closely with clients on their health and wellness needs comes with innate and heightened risk exposure.

Professionals in the sector may have a duty of care to ensure their service doesn’t cause harm or injury to their clients. So, it’s crucial to have insurance that covers your business from negligent claims – even if you’re not at fault.

What does insurance for natural health practitioners cover?

Safeguard your business

With the right insurance cover in place to protect you and your practice, you’ll have the peace of mind and confidence to focus on looking after your clients.

Professional indemnity

Access up to $10 million professional indemnity cover to help cover you for loss or damage that may result from incorrect or misleading professional advice you provide.

Public liability

Choose public liability cover with a $5 million, $10 million or $20 million liability limit to help protect your business against third-party claims of injury or property damage, and costly legal fees.

Tailored options

Depending on your specific industry, you can tailor your insurance package to add options for other things such as business interruption or cyber insurance.

Australia-wide

It doesn’t matter where you operate your business, you’ll be covered anywhere in Australia.

General exclusions

These are some of examples of the general exclusions that are typically not covered by your insurance policy. Talk to a broker to arrange additional cover and read your policy carefully.

Medical practitioners

Medical practitioners such as dentists, doctors, surgeons and nurses, are not covered under this policy.

Existing circumstances

You can’t get cover for claims or circumstances that already exist before your purchase your insurance.

Workplace injuries

Injuries to employees are not covered under this type of policy. Our brokers can help you find personal accident cover or workers compensation if you need it.

Intentional damage

You are not covered for malicious acts or intentional damage to property or other people.

Property damage

Damage to your own assets – cars, buildings, equipment or tools – is not covered. These are covered under business insurance policies.

Product recalls

You’re not covered for the recall, repair, replacement or loss of your products if they are withdrawn from the market because of any defect or deficiency.

Bankruptcy

Not all policies provide cover for financial losses, costs or claims that result from your business’s bankruptcy, insolvency or liquidation.

Fines and penalties

Fines and penalties are not covered under your public liability insurance. However, claims for fines and penalties may be covered under statutory liability insurance.

Contractual obligations

You’re not covered for costs or expenses that arise due to your compliance with contractual requirements or obligations that you and a client had previously agreed to.

Frequently asked questions

A number of different factors that may influence the cost of professional indemnity insurance, such as the service provided, company size and revenue.

When requesting a quote, make sure the declared value of your business is accurate so we can arrange the correct premium and cover for you.

Professional indemnity insurance covers up to $10 million. Public liability insurance covers up to $20 million.

‘Claims made’ is a term used to describe an insurance policy that covers claims that are notified during the policy term. This may not necessarily be the same period in which the accused incident or error resulting in the claim occurred.

Professional indemnity policies provide a 'claims made' basis of cover because advice or service errors in many professions are often discovered weeks, months or even years after the mistake was made.

If the limit of indemnity has changed, it is the limit purchased when the claim is notified that applies – not the limit purchased when the work was completed.

Our team can provide support and proactively guide clients through the claims process.

Contact your Marsh representative to assist with lodging a claim.

If you add another service to your business, all you need to do is let us know. We can advise if your current coverage is still correct or if amendments will need to be made.

Additional costs may apply.

Even if you own a home health business, the risks are just as prevalent as if you worked from a studio or retail space.

Accidents can still happen in your own home, which could expose you to allegations of improper advice, professional negligence and more.

Consider whether professional indemnity insurance and public liability insurance can help protect your business.
