Why is insurance for film and TV production important?

A financial setback can spell disaster for film and TV productions. Whether you’re working on a documentary, short film or commercial, insurance may help you in several ways.

From on-set accidents that result in injury to members of the public, to property damage caused during location shoots, public and products liability is designed to cover these risks and more, ensuring your production stays on track.

What insurance should screen production professionals consider?

Film producers’ indemnity

In film and TV production, every dollar counts. Film producers’ indemnity covers expenses incurred in the event you need to replace key talent – in front of or behind the screen – due to an unforeseen incident.

Production equipment

Film and TV production equipment can be expensive and fragile. Equipment cover can help protect your sound and lighting gear, staging, props and wardrobe for theft, damage, and loss – letting you work without worry.

Errors and omissions

If you work in film and TV, you may face claims due to technical malfunctions, missed cues, or copyright infringement. Errors and omissions can help cover potential legal costs and damages.

Cast and crew

The safety of your cast and crew is paramount. Cast and crew insurance can provide coverage for medical expenses, disability benefits and even life insurance following an accident on set.

Content media

Your recorded content is precious cargo. Content media insurance can help cover costs due to physical loss or damage of footage or data (and faulty stock, cameras, hardware and processing software).

Extra expenses

Extra expenses cover can help ensure you’re protected if unexpected additional costs hit your budget – say if a key piece of equipment is damaged and you’re unable to complete the final day of a shoot.

Frequently asked questions

If you want to cover risks associated with using or lending out your production equipment, consider equipment insurance. Equipment cover can help protect you for costs associated with accidental damage.
