What does musical instrument and equipment insurance cover?

A tailored policy

This policy is designed to cover equipment being used for commercial purposes including paid or unpaid work and/or performances, tuition, practice, rehearsals and more. If you’re a student, semi-professional or professional, equipment insurance my be suitable for you.

Accidental loss, damage and theft

Even best laid plans can unravel. Should loss or damage occur to your equipment by accident – including theft – you can be covered under this policy.

Emergency hire costs

Up to 25% of your sum insured can be used for emergency hire costs after a claim, or a maximum of 30 days hire, whichever is the lesser. Equipment that you buy, hire or borrow during the Policy Period is automatically covered. This is limited to 10% of the total insured limit.

Low standard excess

Low standard excess of $250 per claim.

Extends to laptops, tablets and mobile phones

Cover can extend to laptops, tablets and mobile phones as long as they represent less than 30% of the total sum insured. If this is not the case, please contact us to discuss alternative options. 

Worldwide cover

This policy includes worldwide cover (excluding Russia, Belarus and Ukraine) to help protect against loss, damage or theft to your gear whilst in storage, use or in transit.

General exclusions

These are some of examples of the general exclusions that are typically not covered by your insurance policy: general wear and tear, depreciation, mould, unexplained malfunction. Talk to a broker to arrange additional cover and read your policy carefully.

Personal use

Musical instrument insurance and equipment insurance is not designed to cover equipment being used solely for personal use.

Public liability

Public liability insurance helps protect you against claims made by a third party – like a client or venue. It can help cover the costs of injury and property damage (including legal fees). Learn more about public liability 

Hazardous activities

This policy will not cover loss or payments arising out of any hazardous activities undertaken by you, the insured, without the insurer’s prior written consent.

Typically, the people requiring this type of cover are students using the equipment to improve their craft, semi-professional and professional individuals or companies and organisations using the equipment for paid or unpaid work and/or performance, tuition, practice, rehearsals or recording.

The policy Marsh arranges may cover your equipment anywhere in the world* for accidental damage and theft. Our online solution can provide cover for up to $30,000 worth of equipment. If you require higher amounts you can call us and we can provide a tailored quotation.

The policy will also provide up to 25% of the replacement cost of the damaged or lost equipment, so you can cover the costs of hiring equipment in case you needed it urgently whilst your claim is being processed.

The policy will also automatically cover you for equipment you may hire or borrow. This is limited to 10% of the total insured limit.
