Why is insurance for photographers important?

Your camera and photography equipment are essential tools of trade. When you are on-the-job or heading to or from one, accidents can happen. Camera and Equipment Cover can help protect you by covering the costs of replacing equipment, or even the costs associated with needing to do a reshoot.

Another risk to consider is liability – the legal responsibility you have for any harm or damage that may occur during your photography sessions or as a result of your services. Liability insurance can help cover the costs of property damage, should you accidentally damage a client’s property while setting up for a shoot, for example.

What insurance should photographers consider?

Equipment

Have you made a significant investment in your equipment? Afterall, your camera is the lifeblood of your business. Choose standalone 12-Month Camera and Equipment Cover or combine with liability cover to give you greater peace of mind.

Public liability

While you always strive to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for your clients, it’s important to be prepared. Protect your business, workers and clients with public liability insurance.

Professional liability

Your reputation is everything in the photography industry. An unhappy client can significantly impact your business. If a client alleges that you made an error on location which caused an injury, professional liability insurance can help cover the costs of any legal claims.

Frequently asked questions

Public liability insurance can help cover risks if someone is injured or their property is damaged in connection with your professional photography activities.

If a client feels you were negligent in some way, they may seek compensation for their injuries or damaged property.

A public liability policy may respond to that claim on your behalf.

Professional liability insurance can help protect you against personal injury or property damage claims made as a result of professional advice you have given to a third-party.

The policy Marsh arranges may cover your equipment anywhere in the world for accidental damage and theft. Our online solution can provide cover for up to $50,000 worth of equipment. If you require higher amounts you can call us and we can provide a tailored quotation.

The policy can also provide up to 25% of the replacement cost of the damaged or lost item, so you can cover the costs of hiring equipment in case you needed it urgently whilst your claim is being processed.

Equipment that you buy, hire or borrow during the Policy Period is automatically covered. This is limited to 10% of the total insured limit.

A public liability policy can respond to claims for damage to a third party, not your own. If you need to protect your camera, lens and other equipment including lighting you can click here to purchase either the 12-Month Camera and Equipment Cover or 12-Month Equipment and Liability Package.

If an incident occurs, contact the Marsh entertainment team as soon as you can. We want you to get the best possible outcome, so we will advocate for you throughout the entire claims process.

Claims can be stressful, but – as the world’s largest insurance broker – we strive to make the process straightforward.
