Painters and decorators cover

Let Marsh arrange tailored cover options for your unique risk needs – and be sure your business is covered evenly.

Why should I consider painters insurance?

As a painter, you face many risks while on the job. You work at varying heights – and you’re required to move around frequently. That puts you – and any third party in the vicinity – at heightened risk.

In the event of a claim from a third party for damage or injury, your business could pay the price.

At Marsh, we encourage you to consider public and product liability insurance to help keep you and your business safe.

What’s covered?

  • Public or product liability starting from $5 million and up to $20 million

The limit of liability is the maximum amount that can be provided under the insurance policy.

  • Errors and omissions cover up to $250,000

Helps protect you from claims that may arise from any mistakes you may make in the services you provide.

  • Property cover up to $250,000

For property in physical or legal control.

  • Excess options ranging from $1,000 to $10,000

  • Advertising liability cover

  • Cover for paint work in buildings above two storeys

  • Covers apprentices working for you

Frequently asked questions

We understand that premiums play a big role in choosing the right policy. But there is more to consider.

Premiums are based on the amount of risk the provider takes on – so a lower premium often means more exclusions.

To avoid confusion, be sure to read your policy wording and product disclosure statement carefully.

In addition to public and product liability insurance, there are several additional cover options to consider as a professional painter. These include:

  • Personal accident

  • Tools and equipment

  • Business vehicle.

The insurance needs of a painter can vary, depending on the type of work they perform.

Marsh’s Trades team can help you to understand the nuts and bolts of the industry’s risks – and what cover you’ll need.

It depends on how frequently your business changes.

Major changes – such as business growth, greater work complexity or expanded services – should prompt an insurance review.

As a rule of thumb, we recommend you review your policy every year to ensure your business is covered for its current risk exposures.

A certificate of currency is proof that you hold a current insurance policy.

Please contact us once you have paid for your policy and we’ll email your certificate straight to you.

We can also provide you with policy wordings and tax invoices.

Yes. While there are a few exceptions, the main contractor’s public liability insurance will generally not cover a subcontractor in the event of a claim.

If you are subcontracting to a company and they claim you will be covered under their insurance, it’s best to get written confirmation.

Generally speaking, cover for overspray will depend on your public liability policy. It’s not that overspray is excluded – but the act of using spray guns is excluded under many policies.

It’s always best to let your broker know if you’ll be doing spraying work. They can ensure you have the appropriate cover in place.
