Frequently asked questions

If you are a rideshare driver, it is highly recommended that you consider rideshare insurance. Rideshare insurance is specifically designed to provide coverage for drivers who use their personal vehicles for ridesharing services like Uber – and may even be required by the company before you can work for them.

A number of insurances are available to rideshare car drivers, including:

  • Personal car insurance – this is the cover that most people have for driving their cars for personal use. It doesn’t cover commercial or business use, like ridesharing.
  • Rideshare car insurance – this cover typically provides coverage for rideshare drivers who use their vehicles for both work (as a rideshare driver) as well as personal purposes.
  • Third-party insurance – this type of cover typically covers the driver against claims made by a third party. In other words, it covers the policyholder’s liability for damages or injuries to someone else of their property.

There are several key factors to consider, including:

  • Coverage: For both business and personal use
  • Coverage options: Does it provide adequate cover for you and other parties? Also, is collision included in your policy?
  • Coverage during all rideshare phases, including when you are waiting for a ride request, en route to pick up a passenger, and during an active ride.
  • Deductibles and limits: Deductibles are the amount you must pay out of pocket before the insurance coverage kicks in, so consider what you can comfortably afford. Additionally, check that your coverage limits are sufficient to protect your assets and cover potential damages or injuries.
  • Cost: Consider the cost of the insurance policy and how it fits into your budget. While it's important to find affordable coverage, remember that cheaper policies may have limited coverage or higher deductibles. Balance the cost with the level of coverage and protection you need.
  • Insurance provider reputation: Look for a reputable and reliable insurance company that has experience in providing rideshare car insurance.
