Why should I consider conference insurance or exhibition insurance?

There are many reasons to insure your upcoming conference or exhibition.

For one, venues and service providers often need you to have conference or exhibition public liability insurance before working with them. Their own policy won’t cover damages or accidents considered to be your fault.

Beyond that, the right insurance policy can help shield you from financial losses caused by third-party injury and property damage through to event and travel cancellations.

At large events (over 1,000 people), risks are bound to arise and you could be liable. Make sure you arrange customised insurance cover.

What insurance should I consider for my conference or exhibition?

Event cancellation

Your conference or exhibition can be foiled by the unexpected. Event cancellation and abandonment insurance can help cover financial loss if extreme weather, a natural disaster or an emergency forces you to cancel or postpone.

Staging equipment

If your equipment goes missing or is unusable in time for your event, staging and event equipment insurance can help cover the costs of replacing or repairing equipment if it gets damaged or is lost while in transit or storage.

Non-appearance

If a key speaker or a headline act doesn’t show up, the show may not be able to go on. Non-appearance insurance can help cover financial losses if a key speaker fails to arrive at your conference or exhibition.

Public and event liability

If they happen during your conference or exhibition, injuries and property damage could be traced back to you. Public and event liability insurance can help cover your legal liabilities for third-party injury and property damage.

Voluntary workers’ injury

Volunteers can be integral to the success of your event. Voluntary workers’ personal accident insurance can help protect them (by covering medical expenses and lost income) if they get hurt while working on your behalf.

Travel

A lot can go wrong during a business trip – from cancelled flights to broken-down vehicles. Corporate travel insurance  can help cover medical expenses, trip cancellation fees, lost luggage and trip deposits if things go awry.

If a claim is made against you, tell your broker as soon as you can. You’ll typically need to fill out a claims form next.

Your broker might ask you to provide a copy of any third-party correspondence and/or demands you've received. In some cases, they might need some other information – such as a copy of the service agreement or contract you hold with the claimant.

It's important to familiarise yourself with (and closely follow) all claims conditions in your policy wording. If you don’t, your insurer may not cover your claim.

We want you to get the best possible outcome, so we will advocate for you throughout the entire claims process. Claims can be stressful, but we strive to make the process straightforward.

If you need to make a change to your insurance policy, contact the Marsh Entertainment team .

It’s important to keep your policy up to date if your business or your circumstances have changed. It’s also wise to tell us if your personal information has changed.

Yes. We know that paying your premium in a lump sum can be challenging, so Marsh can arrange premium funding for all policies over $200. You can choose from a 10-month or 12-month instalment plan.

Want to know more about premium funding? Visit our insurance premium funding page.

No. Conference insurance and exhibition insurance aren’t legally mandated by any Australian state or territory – but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t consider them.

While there’s no legal requirement to have it, venues and service providers may need you to have public liability insurance in place before you can work with them. More broadly, the right conference or exhibition insurance policy can also bring peace of mind to everyone involved.

One of the main benefits of using an insurance broker is not having to navigate the renewal process on your own.

We’ll let you know when your policy is coming up for renewal. After that, your Marsh Entertainment broker will take you through the renewal process – assessing your risks and pricing quotes from multiple insurers.
